Our History

Maple sugaring has been a 100+ year tradition for the Johnsons, beginning in 1900 when the family acquired the farm on Wheeler Avenue in Orange, Massachusetts. Currently, the maple sap comes from 4,500 taps. About 500 are near the sugarhouse, which is open for tours during the sugar season, while the remainder are in the Quabbin area on trees that the family has bid on to tap. There are 1,500 taps on pipeline, a network of tubing attached to trees that drains sap into a storage tank, as well as about 3,000 old fashioned bucket taps.Gizmo the Syrian Donkey Johnson's grandchildren, Ryan, Mia, and Colby will become the 6th generation maple sugar makers to join the business!

The 19th century farm house that was on the property was taken down and relocated. A new two story building now serves as our gift shop and restaurant. Enjoy a hearty meal then browse the gift shop for country crafts and artwork. Be sure to visit Gizmo, our beautiful Syrian Donkey, and Jack our retired race horse!
